A popular Dexter restaurant and entertainment spot has a new name. The former Katie’s, which has been its name since 2004, officially is back to its former name—The Alley Bar and Grill.

The change took place on Jan. 1, 2014 at the well-known 2830 Baker Road establishment.

And, more than just the name has changed.

“We have an entirely new menu, a whole new band line up, and something every night of the week like karaoke on Tuesday and live bands on Friday and Saturday,” said general manager Angela Kitchen.

Kitchen has been the general manager for more than four years and says it’s been an ongoing effort to make over the place. Other changes include training staff, updating the bar, the women’s bathroom and painting the outside of the building

“I worked there in 1999 when it was called The Alley, and we had a lot of great music and fun times,” said Kitchen. “We wanted to create that atmosphere again.”

The Alley has a fundraiser scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26 for the family of Joey Abbott, the Dexter teen who died recently. It will run from 3-6 p.m. and also include food and a raffle.

“We have a very small demographic and when we lose somebody in Dexter, it affects everybody I work with, every customer and every friend I have,” said Kitchen. “We have the facility to hold benefits, so it’s our job to do it.”

The Alley has no cover charge, and Kitchen says that Keith Ditmore, the floor manager of The Alley, is there to make sure that, “Nobody leaves our bar unhappy.”
